What is Wordplete?

Wordplete presents a letter grid with counts along its edges. Remove filler to expose English words across and down. The official website offers daily boards and an Unlimited mode.

How to play Wordplete

  1. Read each target as the number of letters to keep.
  2. Read rows left to right and columns top to bottom, preserving letter order.
  3. On the official site, tap to cross out, circle, then clear a letter; right-click circles it.
  4. Find a selection whose words and counts work in both directions. The official game accepts marking all filler or all word letters. Our practice asks you to mark every cell.

The official game also has Hint, Check and Undo. Its tutorial walks through a small example. Use its own controls for its puzzles; this page cannot check an official board.

Interactive example: original practice

Use our visible word bank to complete this independent exercise. It is not an official Wordplete board. For a 4×4 line with target 3, exactly one cell goes. Read the row’s possible words, then check which deletion also fits its column. Try your own marks; Hint explains the next deduction before you apply it.

Wordplete strategy tips

Start with a count that leaves few choices. Consider which ordered selections could make a word. If a line keeps every letter, there is no deletion to choose.

Check the crossing square. A choice must fit both lines. In our practice bank, two identical letters can produce the same row word at different positions; the column decides which copy remains.

Return to a line after making progress elsewhere. A newly confirmed crossing can remove an earlier alternative. Keep track of what is decided and what is still only possible.

Read the whole surviving word. A correct count can still spell the wrong thing. Our hints explain permitted position patterns so you can inspect the reasoning rather than memorise an answer.

Common mistakes

  • Deleting the target number instead of keeping it.
  • Finishing rows without reading columns.
  • Matching the length while leaving a word outside the exercise’s allowed bank.
  • Rearranging letters as though this were an anagram.
  • Treating repeated letters as interchangeable positions.
  • Assuming an undecided mark is a confirmed keep. In our practice, the counters count explicit keeps only.

Practice word logic puzzles

Word Grid Logic has 20 original fixed 4×4 and 5×5 boards, three Learn stages, difficulty filters, explained hints, completion reasoning, Undo and local progress. No account is required. The guide example has its own local save, so it does not replace your game-page progress.

Its public bank is deliberately smaller than a general dictionary. Only listed words qualify, even if an unlisted sequence is real English. Each board has one verified positional solution within these rules. The library is finite; Replay revisits a board.
