Word Trail is an independent four-letter word-ladder practice game. It is not Poople, is not affiliated with its creator, and does not use its daily puzzle archive, artwork, audio or word list.

Game rules and engine

Word ladders change one letter at a time. Our game uses the open-source poople engine, version 0.1.0, by horushe93 under the MIT license. This is a separate project, not permission to redistribute poople.io.

Dictionary

The English word list comes from Loren Brichter's Words project, commit f4976d6a6d34beb431dec8d4b443a138f4dc8bee, under CC0 1.0. Word Trail keeps 5,528 unique four-letter words. A route is shortest within this dictionary only; other games may accept different words. The dictionary includes uncommon and adult words.

Interface

The page design, practice puzzle selection and game interface were created for Word Trail. Controls use Lucide icons, version 0.468.0; see the license notice.
